Anyway when we were in Luxembourg last May I bought several lots of knit fabric ..... There was a fabric fair and it was too good an oportunity to miss and I promised myself I would try making a dress with some of it. I did make a top as a practice last summer and it worked well but then got sidetracked making quilts and other things.
I got a dress makers dummy for my birthday so I'm finally putting it to use and making a dress. Have decided to use a pattern I came across in my stash of patterns and magazines
Have done some research and found a few others who have made the same dress
And have finally started cutting out the pattern pieces .... Using weights and my rotary cutter as advised by several pintrest entries.
I thought I would write a blog post showing how I get on so that it might help me with the next one, assuming that this one goes ok :-)
I've started off by doing the ties as I wanted to see how the fabric worked in the overlocker .... It seems ok, so now I'm trying to understand the pattern instructions, it seems to want me to tack it all together the wrong way round to check the fit ..... But the web sites seem to suggest otherwise ..... So a bit of reasearch with a g&t should make it far easier to understand :-)
The dresses coming along nicely, decided not to follow the pattern instructions as they were far too complicated and had you sewing it together the wrong way out, unpicking it all and sewing it together the right way round .... Doesn't seem to have suffered too much ....
Now all I need to do is finish the neck line and hem the bottom. Tried to do the neck using the binding as suggested but it stretched and looked awful, so unpicked it last night and will sew it again tonight !
